Leadership Fan Day -- Thanks to Mark Scureman for a Powerful Leadership Concept
Leadership Fan Day happens every time a leader stands in front of the 'fan' when s*#t hits it!
We don't fully appreciate the power, grace, skill, art & science of being in charge until we see a great man under fire. Until we see him stand up to the grilling about what happened, or, didn't happen on his watch.
Right now we're seeing this play out with the Toyota Motor company and their massive recall. Company President, Akio Toyoda, has been in the U.S. facing a grillin' like none other in front of the Congress. Ouch!
Studies say that most people in the U.S. do not want to lead in any shape, form or fashion. Maybe it's because we all know that 'Fan-Day' is coming. It's because we know that the point person has to take the heat for their team's performance and that the energies of other humans are a tricky thing to align, synergize, deploy and roll into a productive outcome.
But, when she stands in front of the fan on 'Fan Day'it shows her moxy & skill. It showcases wisdom from the trenches of battle and time invested in learning while others were lazy. We must prepare for 'fan day' all the time by learning from others who've faced the fan successfully even when covered in 'poo'!
It takes a truly great man or great woman to stand in front of the fan on 'Leadership Appreciation Day' but that's what we do! So, build your moxy, people skills and leadership artistry and get your act together.
Because 'fan day' is coming!
Thanks to Retired Army Colonel, Mark Scuremann, for this concept that I had the privilege to hear him share in a Leadership Course that he and I taught through the University of Louisville Delphi Center. Mark is a fantastic presenter of all things leadership!
