Why it's good to have others running beside you. There is an ancient text that says that two are better than one, because if one falls down, there's someone there to help him. And, that same group of writings adds that success is found with many counselors. I'm learning at a profound level the power of having a team of like minded leaders to run with and to be coached with in a cohort fashion. Leading can be nuanced and tough at times and it's really easy to give up on the dream of doing something great when you face off with those who simply don't understand what leaders have to do and why you do some things that must be done. They don't have a 'leadership' gear so they can't think like you do. And, that is hard on them and frustrating for you. However, if you abdicate the helm of your organization to people who are not truly leaders you will diminish and maybe even destroy the potential dream and world change that you and your team is attempting to usher in. So, you owe it the team and the dreams of your org to stay at the helm and lead. Even when non-leaders don't like it. But, it's easy to want to quit when the chirpers start chirping. Only other leaders get leader-talk. So, I've found it refreshing and encouraging and get to hang out onlie with 12 other pastors who face many of the same challenges that I do. No matter what your industry you need professional peers running alongside you to help you along and to dust you off when you get tripped up by the goofy stuff that people toss onto your path to slow you down or try to derail the mission totally. I'm so glad that I found a team to run with and that I made the financial and time investments it takes to build enduring relationships with them. It's life-giving to have buddies running beside you.
